Identify Articles

With the following resources, you can identify many thousands of journal articles, most of which are available in full text.

  • Galileo.  Georgia's virtual library. See the tutorial for instructions. Off-campus users must supply the current password, available on your SCHOLAR home page.

  • EBSCOhost databases.  Our collection of independent EBSCOhost databases supplements those found in Galileo. A password, which can be obtained from the library (678-260-3563 Monday through Friday; 770-748-0231, ext. 7296 Friday through Sunday) is required for remote access.

  • List of Best Journals by Subject.  Consult this list to locate quality electronic journals in a specific field.

Keep in mind that, in addition to databases with articles on many topics, there are those that only contain articles on a single subject or discipline.  Please be sure to see these lists of subject-specific databases:

Locate Full-Text Articles

Can't find your article in full text? Use the following resources to locate it.

  • The Shorter E-Journals Database lists each journal that can be accessed electronically through the Shorter libraries. Type in the name of a journal to see a list of full text databases in which it can be found. This resource is not available off-campus.

  • The Periodical List is a listing of paper- and microfilm-based periodicals owned by the Rome library. If you are looking for an article that is not available electronically, check here to see if the Rome library has the journal in which it was published.  If so, fill out an Intercampus Loan Request for Articles.

  • Interlibrary Loan Request for Articles.  Still can't find your article?  Fill out an Interlibrary Loan Request for Articles to obtain it from another library system.  Do this only after having searched online and in the Periodical List.

Identify & Locate Books

The Shorter libraries hold a combined 138,000 paper volumes and over 46,000 electronic books. Use the following to locate and obtain them.

  • The Library Catalog lists books available at all four campus libraries. See the tutorial for instructions. You can have books sent to your location from any of the other campuses by filling out an Intercampus Loan Request for Books. If the book you need is not available at Shorter, you may order it from another library system.  Complete an Interlibrary Loan Request for Books to accomplish this.

  • netLibrary is Shorter's collection of over 45,000 electronic books. Each of these books can be read online, and are listed in the library's catalog. See the tutorial for instructions.

  • WorldCat* is an amalgamation of virtually every library catalog in North America.  Use it to identify books to request through Interlibrary Loan.  Note:  To access this resource off campus, the Galileo password, available on your SCHOLAR home page, is required.
