STDV 1000: Professional Development and the
Adult Learner.
1 credit
This course introduces adult learning concepts to help students analyze
approaches to learning and chart their own development. It also focuses
on the small-group model used in Shorter's Professional Studies
programs, discusses the concepts and skills necessary for success in
these programs, and affords practice in small-group skills for
information-sharing and decision-making discussions. Students will also
complete writing and math assessments.

INTR 1110: Critical Thinking. 3 credits
This introductory logic course is designed to develop the ability to
think clearly and critically, primarily through practice in inductive
and deductive reasoning. The course emphasizes the recognition of
fallacious reasoning, unclear or misleading language, and manipulative
techniques in various forms of communication. (5 weeks)

XXXX 1010: Introduction to Sociology, Economics,
Psychology, or American Government. 3 credits
This course will emphasize one of the introductory disciplines in the
social sciences: Sociology, Psychology, Economics, or American
Government.

HPED 1800: Concepts of Health. 3 credits
This course is a study of physiological functions of the human body and
the problems of health. Special emphasis is given to promoting and
preserving better personal and community health knowledge and study of
world health problems and disease. (5 weeks)

HUMN 2110: Fine Arts Appreciation. 3 credits
This course will emphasize one of three tracks: the history and practice
of art, an introductory survey of music, or a basic introduction to
performed theater. (5 weeks)

RELN 2110: Introduction to Biblical
Literature. 3 credits
This course is designed to introduce students to the Bible, emphasizing
the formation and structure of the canon, methods of interpreting the
Biblical literature, literary forms present in the Bible, and the
content of the Biblical material. Significant attention will be given to
the Bible's influence on Western literature and culture, including its
impact on modern American culture. (5 weeks)

ACCT 2010: Financial Accounting I. 3 credits
This course focuses on the study of accounting as an information system
and the preparation of the four basic financial statements. It is
designed to teach the foundational accounting principles of internal
control within a business organization.

ENGL 3310: American Business Culture in Novel
and Film.

This course will focus on the historical framework of American business
culture, challenging students to engage in significant thought and
discussion on the issues affecting American culture, business ethics,

ACCT 2020: Financial Accounting II. 3
credits
This course is a continuation of ACCT 2010, devoted to the measuring and
reporting of financial information for partnerships and corporations.
This course also focuses on the managerial analysis of accounting
information.
